Killed in action and laid to rest in Cornwall: second from the right is the grave stone of Sergeant George Broughton Amery, of Weatherill Street, who was killed in action in July 1942 near Cornwall.

His nephew, David Harrison, of Torquay, recently visited his uncle's grave in St Illogan's church yard, near Redruth, and contacted the Goole Times with a photograph of it.

Mr Harrison said: "Sergeant George Broughton Amery was one of Goole's proudest citizens and his sister Mary still lives in the town.

"George lies in peace now, with his brave air crew near him."

Sgnt Amery was 26 when he died and was the younger son of Mr and Mrs Amery, of Queensway.

He went to Rawcliffe Bridge Council School before leaving to work at Turner Paper Mill and then at E.Timm and Son in Goole.

His interests included cricket and he used to play for Rawcliffe Bridge Cricket Club.
