Groups 'delighted' with funding grants

Published on 26th April 2007 in News

A music group from Crowle, a playscheme in Snaith and Cowick and a playgroup in Goole and Howden have all received a share of nearly £15,000 from a community funding body.

'The Eternal and Miniature Heroes', who are based in Crowle Methodist Church have received £5,694.48 from Humber and Wolds Rural Community Council (HWRCC).

The money means they will be able to buy a whole host of equipment from their wish list, such as half-sized guitars, plastic clarinets, flutes, bongoes, Calypso drums, staging, lighting, smoke machines, laptops and craft materials.

The leader of the group, Sheena Chisnell, said: "It's fantastic news - unbelievable!

"We're very excited because we never thought we'd get that amount of money.

"We had a good cause but I still had doubts. It's fantastic!"

Around 12 children aged between seven and 11 make up the group, which has been running for less than a year.

They are helped by four adults - Sheena, Saff Butler, Pat Briggs and Geoff Taylor - and three teenagers.

"The older ones really help the younger ones," said Sheena. "And the parents are very supportive."

As well as music, the group also take part in dance, drama, craft, games and trips out.

There are spaces for up to 20 people in the group, and new participants and helpers are always welcome.

The HWRCC has also awarded £1,617 to Scamps Parent, Toddler and Baby Group which meets in Howden Youth Centre on Wednesday and Friday mornings.

"We're absolutely delighted," said treasurer Susan Kenning.

"We're a charity so it will be nice to have some brand new toys."

The group plan to buy bikes, a slide and other educational toys.

Meanwhile, the Snaith and Cowick Playscheme has been awarded £7,000, which will be used for the project during this year's summer holidays.
