Tough choices to be made over community grants

Goole Town Council heard of the difficult decisions faced by officers as they decided on the grants to be awarded to arts, sports, youth and over-60s' groups.

Councillors queried whether certain groups should have been given more and were told by officers that money would have to be taken away from others.

Grants were handed out on the basis that requests for sums of £300 or under were awarded in full, and requests over that amount were given 40 per cent of what they asked for.

The following grants were awarded:

Sports Section

Cobra Archers - £200; Goole and District Bowling Association - £400; Goole AFC Football in the Community - £500; Goole Amateur Boxing Club - £200; Goole Judo Club £200; Goole Ladies Hockey Club - £200; Goole Model Boat Club - £175; Goole Town Cricket Club - £475; Goole Town Women's Football Club - £350; Goole Youth Netball Club - £500.

Youth and Community and Over 60s Section

Councillors agreed to continue service level agreements with Goole Go Far (£4,243), the Green Team (£4,000), The Hinge (£4,243) and Victim Support (£2,121) and in kind arrangements with Goole Development Trust (£4,774) and Hills Community Association (£1,570).

Air Training Corps (2357) Squadron - £600; Boothferry Family and Local History Group - £95; Bumps and Babies - £160; Goole and District Coalition of Physical Disabilities - £1,000; Goole and District Community Group - £1,920; Goole and District Crime Prevention Panel - £320; Goole and District Mariners' Association - £300; Goole Area Access and Disability Group - £100; Goole Solo Club - £100; Home Start Goole and District - £485; Hull and East Riding Mind - £220; Normandy Veterans, Branch 63 - £200; North of England Fife Fancy Canary Club - £270; Old Goole Community Centre Over 60s - £250; Old Goole Gala Association - £2,200; Old Goole Industrial and Provident Society - The Moorlands - £310; Parkside Kids Club - £179; Parkside Under Fives - £300; Radio Medica - £350; Royal British Legion - £250; St John Ambulance - £300; St John Parish Church - £130.

Arts and Cultural Section

There is no closing date for this section and councillors agreed that £1,339.15 should be left in the budget.

Goole Art Society - £150; Goole Choral Society - Up to £100 guarantee against loss; Starlight Percussion Group - £410.85 maximum free use of The Gate.

Another three year service level agreement with Boothferry Citizens' Advice Bureau, to the value of £12,360, was also agreed.
