Bright future

Published on 26th April 2007 in News

An innovative event is to be held in Goole next month which will provide local companies and organisations with information and advice about new employment opportunities and challenges soon to be available in the area.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council has teamed up with partners Yorkshire Forward, Jobcentre Plus, the Learning and Skills Council and a number of training providers to form a group which will take forward a number of initiatives aimed at attracting local people to train and apply for new job opportunities. The event also aims to raise the awareness of local companies about what is happening in the area.

"With the Centreport development off Junction 36 now taking shape, a much brighter future for jobs is in prospect," said Jo Dooley, the council's senior inward investment officer.

"The Tesco warehouse and distribution centre alone, for example, will need 1,000 new employees."

The lunchtime event will take place on Wednesday, May 23 at Goole Leisure Centre, from 12 noon until 2.30pm. Following a short presentation by Alan Menzies, assistant chief executive for ERYC, on the significance of Centreport to the future of Goole, people will then have the chance to ask questions. There will also be an opportunity for local companies to network with business support agencies and training providers.
