Store staff to don their flares in charity blast from the past

Published on 14th September 2006 in News

The generous staff at the Focus DIY store in Goole are preparing to don their most outrageous platform shoes and biggest bell bottoms in order to raise money for the Meningitis Trust.

On Saturday, September 16 and Sunday, September 17, staff at the store will hold a 'Blast from the Past' fundraising event, and will become one of many stores across the county to host a mix of exciting family activities in a national bid to raise over £100,000 to support the life-saving work carried out by the Meningitis Trust.

Clare Latham at Focus DIY, said: "Each year the staff at Focus and our fantastic customers have shown tremendous support for this annual event, which always results in a huge amount of money being raised for a very worthwhile charity.

"I'm confident that, with the help of our brilliant staff and customers who always have great fun during the weekend, we will be able to surpass our target and present Meningitis Trust with a lovely large cheque."

At this weekend's event, staff will be dressing-up for the occasion in their favourite party outfits from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, and hosting a range of in-store activities. All are invited to come along and take part in the local and national fundraising extravaganza.

Jane Denley, Meningitis Trust corporate fundraiser, said: "I'm particularly looking forward to seeing this year's 'Blast from the Past' colourful fancy dress outfits. I'm sure there will be quite a few people who will relish the opportunity to dig out their old favourites."
