An interactive exhibition that looks at long-term plans for the Howdenshire area is set to come to Howden Minster next weekend.

Howdenshire, which includes Howden and its surrounding parishes, is part of million pound market town development programme that is now being driven forward by a full-time co-ordinator, and residents are being invited to find out more about this programme at the exhibition, which will take place from 10am until 1pm at Howden Minster on Saturday, April 28.

The main aims of the programme are to strengthen the local economy and to develop community facilities, and the programme is being led by the Howdenshire Forward partnership, a strategic group that includes the local authority, town and parish councils, businesses, community groups and residents.

"This is a very exciting time for Howdenshire Forward as the projects are being developed and are beginning to be delivered," said Hugh Roberts, chair of Howdenshire Forward.

"We still need more active volunteers to get involved in these projects which will improve their communities, so if you have an interest in any of the partnership's areas of work, please get in touch and become involved."

The exhibition will be an interactive event, with opportunities for people to contribute their thoughts about all elements of development in Howden and the surrounding areas.

Chance to have your say

The £1m programme has five priorities that will focus on improving public spaces, improving and supporting tourism and retail, improving leisure, recreation and cultural opportunities, addressing parking and transport issues, and supp-orting business development, including digital media.

Stuart Younger, who has been appointed full-time co-ordinator for Howdenshire Forward, is urging residents to attend in order to find out more about the programme, and "feed in" their views and ideas.

Country Notes

Well, here we are at the start of 2009. A time to look forward, with hopes and dreams and New Year Resolutions, but it is also a time to look back at the events of the old ye

Times when New Year resolutions were not quite so necessary but were demanded just the same!

Goole was probably the same as any other place in those days.
