Housing plans look a long way off

A housing development that could create around 600 houses in Howden and a link road that would act as a flood barrier does not look set to become a feature in the town any time soon as the land required has not yet been released, Howden Town councillors heard this week.
The news came in a letter from East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) following an inquiry from town councillors.
At last month's meeting, Howden Town councillors discussed the possibility of a future housing development on land north of Howden - between Shelford Avenue and Howden railway station - after the agent responsible for all land north of Minster Park informed the council that he would like to proceed with a planning application that could bring 600 houses to Howden and a link road between Station Road and Barn Hill.
But, in a letter presented to Howden Town Council at Tuesday's Meeting, Peter Ashcroft, spatial planning manager at ERYC, said that the land had not yet been allocated for development under the Joint Structure Plan and that other sites were currently preferable for development.
Mr Ashcroft also confirmed that a report about the land would be presented to ERYC's Cabinet later in the year.
Cllr Robert Jarred said: "The Town Council shouldn't get itself wound up with this development at the moment."
