Children at the Munchkins Day Nursery near Hemingbrough are 'happy and settled' according to an Ofsted report.

The playgroup, which is based at the Brackenholme Business Park, was praised for the warm and welcoming environment in which the children are cared for. Ofsted inspector Ms Dobson also made positive comments about staff who 'promote positive attitudes in children'.

The children are protected because sufficient staff hold a current first-aid qualification.

The inspector also found that children were 'sociable and confident' and 'form positive relationships and are constructive in their play'.

The quality of teaching is satisfactory and staff provide appropriate levels of support to the children's learning.

Children also benefit from visitors from the local community, including police officers, the fire service and staff and animals from the local farm.

Staff use positive language to promote self-esteem as they praise children for their achievements.

Partnership with parents and carers is satisfactory with notice boards to notify parents of events such as fund raising.

Parents are welcomed into the nursery by staff and 'develop warm, working relationships'.

It was commented that there was a lack on consistency in maintaining documentation accurately, which Ms Dobson said could have an adverse affect on children and their parents.

Recommendations following this inspection, which was carried out on April 3, were to keep a record of complaints made by parents, which they can see on request.

Overall, the nursery was rated 'satisfactory' and meets the National Standards for under 8s' day care and childminding.
