Game over for Rawcliffe United?

Published on 14th September 2006 in News

Local Sunday league football club members may be forced to hang up their boots - because they have no changing facilities.

Rawcliffe United should be enjoying their promotion into Division One but their success is being spoiled by opponent teams refusing to play them - resulting in the Rawcliffe team having to play all their games away.

The players of the long-standing team had been using facilities at the nearby New Bridge pub but due to renovations at the pub these changing facilities are no longer available to the team.

No reply from Council

The team has asked the East Riding of Yorkshire Council for permission to site a portable building on the field where they play - behind Rawcliffe Bridge Primary School - but to date have heard nothing back from the Council.

They then asked to school if they could use their facilities but the governors refused.

Speaking to the Goole Times this week, club secretary Mavis Parrott said: "The team will have to close without changing facilities.

"Their first game of the season was supposed to be played at home but we were forced to play away due to the lack of changing facilities. We are facing teams who are refusing to play us due to a situation which has now been ongoing for two seasons.

"At the moment we are having to play all our games away, but this can't carry on.

"The council sent us forms out for planning permission but these were for a brick building, not the temporary building which we want.

"We sent the forms back saying what we wanted but were just sent the same forms back again. Now nothing seems to be happening."

The East Riding of Yorkshire Council was not able to comment on the current situation as we went to press.
