Supermarket plans for Vesuvius site?

Published on 14th September 2006 in News

Claims that major supermarket chains Asda and Morrisons have expressed an interest in the site of the soon-to-close Vesuvius factory in Goole have not been confirmed.

More than a hundred workers at Vesuvius, situated just off A. W. Neilsen Road in Goole, were stunned when they were told that the factory would be closed by June 30 next year. Now it seems that a major supermarket could be based there.

However, Simon Leonard, spokesperson for Asda, flatly denied the rumours. He said: "Someone must have got their wires crossed, as we have not shown any interest in this site."

A spokesperson for Morrisons added: "We are always looking for new areas to develop and always consider our options." The spokesperson declined to comment any further.
