Inquest delay

Published on 19th April 2007 in News

The family of a charity worker shot dead by police near North Cave will have to wait until next year to find out exactly how he died.

Simon Murden (26) was shot while driving his father's van the wrong way along the A63 on March 22, 2005.

Police said they used live ammunition after baton rounds failed to stop him.

Last month, Mr Murden's family was "horrified" to learn that the two officers would not be prosecuted and have now been told that the inquest into his death will not take place until next year because of the commitments of the legal representatives.

Simon's mother, Dorothy Murden, said the family understood that the process was a lengthy one but were disappointed and frustrated that they were going to have to wait so long.

She said the family had mixed feelings about the inquest, but while they were approaching it with trepidation, they still wanted to know exactly how Simon died.
