News Let's get ready to rock...
Months of hard work followed by a 'lively and energetic' performance about emotions has helped a group of students from Howden School win two awards at this year's Lifestyle Rock Challenge.
Some 88 students went to Hull Arena, where they performed an eight-minute piece based on emotions.
They impressed judges so much that they took home the Andrew Marr International Award for Best Hair and Makeup, and the Connexions Humber Performers' Choice Award, which is decided by other performers.
The pupils were one of several groups competing in the rock challenge, which is organised by Humberside Police to help steer youngsters away from drugs and alcohol and show them how to achieve a natural high through performing.
Rehearsals began in December and students have spent almost every evening after school and some weekends perfecting their routine.
They also came up their own theme and choreography, painted their set and sewed their costumes.
John Skurr, of Howden School, said: "We're really pleased that all their hard work and efforts were rewarded.
"To win the performers' award is a testimony to how much the other schools enjoyed it."
Performance judge Pamela Grey described their set, which portrayed sadness, love, happiness and anger, as: "Extremely lively and energetic, with an excellent soundtrack that was complemented by the choreography.
"The ending was a really impacting finish that was well choreographed.
"Well done to all those who took part."
A spokesperson for the Humber-side Police Lifestyle Team also commented on the students' energy and enthusiasm before they went on stage
