Three guilty of village green attack on teen

Published on 12th April 2007 in News

Three men accused of inflicting actual bodily harm on a teenager have appeared at Goole Magistrates' Court.

Nathan Clayton (19), of Weeland Villas in Snaith, Adrian Dean (26), of Camm Lane in Carlton, and Andrew King (34), of Flaxley Road in Selby, each pleaded guilty to inflicting actual bodily harm upon a youth last year.

Frightening text threat

Prosecutor Teresa Slater told the court that on the evening of September 9 last year the 16-year-old victim was sitting with friends on The Green in Rawcliffe when he received a text message saying 'They are on their way with knives.'. The youth was said to have been drinking alcohol during the evening, but was still 'fully aware'.

Punched and kicked 'curled up' teenager

The three men pulled up at the scene in a car and, after asking for the youth, proceeded to punch and kick him on his head and body while he 'curled up in a ball'.

Miss Slater told the court that the assault was witnessed by other teenagers at the scene. The youth was taken to Goole Hospital with injuries which included a broken nose, black eyes, a broken big toe and swelling to the shoulders.

Defending, Mr David Robson told the court that Mr Clayton accepted that he assaulted the youth, Mr Bugg accepted he 'punched him two or three times', and Mr King was involved in only one punch.

Case adjourned for reports

Mr Robson said that there were more details available to the case than the ones that the complainant had offered, and asked that magistrates consider adjourning the case for a full pre-sentence report.

Magistrates decided that because it was such a 'serious offence', the case should be adjourned until April 24 for a pre-sentence report.

All three defendants were given unconditional bail.
