Fatality on train line

Published on 5th April 2007 in News

A Thorne man was killed last week after he was struck by a freight train on a commuter line in the early hours of Friday.

British Transport said the man died at the scene after he was hit by an EWS freight train at Wyke Gate Crossing near to Thorne South railway station, shortly before 5.30am on Friday, March 30.

In a telephone call to British Transport Police, the driver of the freight train reported a man lying on the tracks.

He was identified as being a 41-year-old from the Thorne area, and members of his family have been informed. Police are not treating the death as suspicious.

There was some disruption to train journeys shortly after the incident, but by the time the commuter rush was under way, services were running smoothly once again.
