Blooming sites around Goole:

Goole is set to be judged on how blooming marvellous it is as after becoming an entrant in the 2007 Britain in Bloom competition.

Britain in Bloom is one of the longest-running, most effective competitions in the UK and the largest of its kind in Europe. The competition incorporates floral features, permanent planting, wildflower meadows, planting for nature and much more - and this year, Goole has become an entrant in the Yorkshire in Bloom section.

Goole Town councillor Jean Kitchen, chair of the Goole in Bloom group, said: "This is an exciting opportunity to highlight the town's many assets and improve Goole's environment to develop town pride and nurture our community.

"In Bloom encourages communities to make positive and long-lasting improvements to their local areas to benefit residents, businesses and visitors.

"It's been great to see just how many people and businesses have been inspired to take part already."

The first part of the competition takes place on Wednesday, April 18, when judges will embark on a two-hour tour of Goole. A route has been chosen and work to highlight key areas along that route is under way.

As part of the spring route, judges will visit sites including Parkside Primary School, the Green Team allotments, Vermuyden School, Goole College, the Waterways Museum, Lock Hill Memorial Gardens and Riverside Gardens.

The summer competition is judged in July, so work will be continuing throughout the coming months to ensure Goole is ready for further inspection.
