Windows issue

Published on 29th March 2007 in News

Snaith town councillors agreed on Monday that it has 'done as much as it can do' with regard to the recent and controversial replacement of the windows at Snaith Library.

Councillors were in uproar when the East Riding of Yorkshire Council (ERYC) carried out repair works at the library in Market Place - which is in a conservation area - using aluminium window frames and plastic fascia boards to replace the existing windows.

A number of complaints have been made to the ERYC over the fact that it did not consult with the town council or the public before beginning the work, and used materials starkly in contrast with the area.

But the ERYC maintain that all the correct procedures have been carried out.

Speaking at Monday's meeting, town mayor Greta Laughton said: "I don't think we will ever get to the bottom of this, the town council has done as much as it can do."
