Sixpenny Wood windfarm plans on show

Promoters of the proposed Sixpenny Wood windfarm have announced a date for an exhibition so that residents and other stakeholders can view the plans.
The project, if approved by the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, will see up to 16 wind turbines built on land at Balkholme, and residents are invited to look at the plans at the Shire Hall in Howden next Thursday, September 14 between 1pm and 8pm.
The exhibition will include detailed background information and will give people an opportunity to talk with the project team.
"We have developed a scheme that will help the East Riding meet its renewable energy targets," said Matt Kelly, project development manager for Your Energy Ltd.
"We are totally committed to consulting with residents to gauge their views on our plans, which will help us to fine tune things before we submit them to the planning department at East Riding of Yorkshire Council."
However, Paul Robinson, chairman of Gilberdyke Parish Council, said that the East Riding of Yorkshire Council needs to act now to prevent a needless and unsightly crop of wind turbines appearing across the region.
He added: "The East Riding of Yorkshire Council is being dictated to by windfarm developers, but really it is the council who should be saying where it would prefer a proposed windfarm to be.
"The council has the opportunity to be a pioneer of renewable energy here, and not necessarily through using wind power."
Mr Robinson went on to explain that the East Riding of Yorkshire Council has the advantage of a tidal river running across the south of the county, and that water would be a preferable form of renewable energy.
He said: "Water should be our friend, not our foe."
