Intrusive sign appeal

Published on 29th March 2007 in News

An appeal against the East Riding of Yorkshire Council's (ERYC) decision to refuse permission for a trailer carrying an advertisement near a business in Kilpin has been dismissed.

The appeal was lodged by Alternative Advertising Ltd against ERYC's decision to refuse express consent for the trailer on land west of Bellcross Nurseries in Bellcross Lane, Kilpin.

But a government inspector recently dismissed the appeal on the grounds that the sign, located on the south side of the M62 to the east of junction 27, would cause a distraction to motorists who would be trying to read the 'detailed contents' of the sign.

The inspector also thought that the sign would 'stand out as an unduly intrusive and discordant general advertising feature within this pleasant rural setting'.
