Hope remains for former hotel plans

An outline planning application for four homes with associated parking in Swinefleet was put on hold when members of East Riding of Yorkshire Council's (ERYC) western area planning committee met in Beverley.
Applicant Mrs M. Mayall has put forward the plans to erect four homes in High Street, Swinefleet, following the demolition of the existing George Hotel on land between High Street and Low Street. The general layout includes a row of three two-storey terraced houses, plus an additional detached two-storey house centrally in the site.
The applicant intends to make two of the three terraced properties available to local people for renting at an affordable price, meeting a local need and in compliance with ERYC's 2006 Housing Needs Survey which indicates that four additional affordable properties will be required in Swinefleet for the next five years.
Planning officers recommended that the application be refused on the grounds that the village is not a sustainable location for new development, and the dwelling would not meet an identified local need. But the application has been referred to ERYC's next available full planning committee meeting after members of the western area planning committee voted unanimously in favour of the plans.
