Lotto warning
Another lottery scam appears to have hit the Goole area - this time from a company based in Toronto, Canada.
A Goole resident, who does not wish to be named, contacted the Goole Times last week after she received a letter from a company called Global Escrow Registry, telling her that her eligibility had been confirmed and she could win a cheque for £6,000 if she responded to the letter within seven days, completing a "funds transfer document' and enclosing £19.95 to cover notification and processing costs.
The resident was instantly suspicious, as she has not been in contact with such a company in the past, and has warned other residents to be on the lookout for similar letters.
The resident said: "I could tell straight away that this letter was a con, but I'm not sure if other older people will realise it is.
"I think it's disgusting - not everybody will think on that this is a scam, and these companies are taking advantage of this."
Several companies have sent out similar letters to residents around the Goole area over the last few months, each offering a large cash prize in return for either money or bank details.
