Tax an issue

We could be seeing a completely new business in Goole in the future as Walkers Bingo closes down and the building is put up for sale.
It has been announced that Walkers Bingo on Boothferry Road is set to close by the end of this month, and the building will be going up for sale.
Graham Kerr, managing director of Top Ten Holdings, which has run Walkers Bingo for the last two years, told the Goole Times this week that such closures are happening right across the bingo industry at the moment.
He said: "The fact that bingo clubs pay 67 per cent more tax than betting shops, coupled with the impending smoking ban, means that a lot of the smaller bingo halls will begin to disappear and, unfortunately, Goole is one of them."
