A Gilberdyke factory is responsible for building prefabricated prison cells that could be used to ease overcrowding in Britain's cells.
Britspace's Gilberdyke factory is putting together the 11ft by 8ft blocks, made from a steel frame and covered with extra-tough steel panels, which have been tested by SAS troops.
A trial is to be held in July and, if successful, units could leave the factory and be sealed together to form entire prison wings within months.
Derek Tyler, managing director of Britspace, said: "Britspace has worked closely with the prison service to ensure the cells are designed to the highest specification, meet all health and safety requirements and are cost and time efficient."
