Folk singer to bring touch of Irish charm

A young Irish folk singer who is quickly making her way up in the music world is set to make an appearance at Howden's Shire Hall.
Cara Dillon - whose vocals were featured by Billy Connolly in his 'World Tour of England, Ireland and Wales' TV series, and who has been invited to sing at the opening ceremony of this year's Ryder Cup golf tournament on September 21 - will be appearing in concert at the Shire Hall on Friday, September 29.
The concert comes as part of a tour that has been arranged in association with Nu-Routes - an initiative created to develop traditional values, cross boundaries and take music to many venues not normally noted for presenting this style of music.
Cara has released two highly successful solo albums, both tastefully blending traditional and modern themes, and has received many accolades including BBC Radio Two Folk Awards, Big Buzz and Hot Press Awards, with her albums placing her firmly amongst the leading lights of the new generation of young traditional artists emerging into the mainstream.
Throughout the evening, Cara will be joined by keyboard player and partner Sam Lakeman, guitarist and songwriter John Smith and fiddle player Lori Watson.
Nu Routes organiser Martin Peirson, said: "This is a rare chance to see these outstanding musicians sharing their expertise and bringing some first class entertainment right to our doorstep."
Tickets are available at £12 or £10 concession, and can be ordered in advance from The Shire Hall in Howden, or by calling Beverley Folk Festival Office on 01377 217569.
