Deadline for Holland House protest letters

Published on 7th September 2006 in News

The Holland House Action Group is urging all its supporters to make sure that they send their latest objection letter off to the East Riding Council by tomorrow's deadline of September 8.

Letters received after that date will not be taken into consideration by the Council in determining the latest planning application received by them in relation to the Holland House site.

This latest application has been made by a company called Partnerships in Care, rather than the current owners of the site PD Services. Earlier in the year, Partnerships in Care contacted the Holland House Action Group to confirm that they were in negotiations with the current owners for the purchase of the site.

HHAG press officer Helen Garner said: "Partnerships in Care state that they wish to open a low secure unit for women with learning disabilities, but have not confirmed whether any of the intended 'service users' will come as a result of being diverted from the Criminal Justice system, for example women currently detained in secure prisons or hospitals. The term learning disabilities is so wide it covers people with dyslexia to people with violent and untreatable personality disorders.

"In short the HHAG believe that Partnerships in Care's plans are just the same as those of PD Services, and will not deliver the return of the nursing care beds for the elderly, and those in need of respite care."

Also, because planning law does not differentiate between medium and low security or take account of the nature of the detainees, and planning consent 'belongs' to the land, not the owner or the appellant, if PiC's application is granted, therefore, there would be nothing to stop anyone turning Holland House into a medium secure unit as proposed by PD Services, Ms Garner said.

HHAG's web site - www.hhag.co.uk - offers advice on how to complete and send your letter and leaflets are being delivered to houses in Goole and Hook this week.

Letters should be addressed to Mr R Parry, Development Services Manager, Law Administration Planning and Property Department, County Hall, Beverley HU17 9BA, quoting reference number DC/06/063201/PLF/WESTWW/RP. You should confirm whether you approve or object to the application.

In addition, tomorrow evening, September 8, Frank Ella is holding a fundraising event for Holland House Action Group at Christ Church on Hook Road starting at 7.30pm

Tickets are available from Daisychain Nursery on 01405 761871.
