Seen here is Town Mayor Kevin Duffy welcoming Victoria Bamgboye, senior safety consultant, and Dr Margaret Osakwe, party leader of the Nigerian Ports Authority Delegation to Goole College.

A group of Nigerian delegates were given a warm welcome last week when they travelled to Goole to learn more about the town's port operations.

The Nigerian Ports Authority chose the Ports and Logistics Centre at Hull College to deliver a five-day 'managing safety in ports' course last week. The 16 delegates, all senior ports personnel, travelled to Hull to learn about UK Ports' health and safety practice, before arriving at Goole to experience port operations first hand.

Darryl Hare, Ports and Logistics Centre co-ordinator, said: "That the Nigerian Port Authority chose us is a tremendous vote of confidence for Hull and Goole, and for the Humber Estuary in general.

"In conjunction with Associated British Ports, we were able to afford delegates unrivalled access to port operations and arrange guest speakers for them. This was very well received by the delegates and gave real additional quality to the course."
