Calendar boys are a global success

Published on 14th December 2006 in News

A leading cancer charity has heaped praise on a group of Rawcliffe residents who have raised a 'fantastic' amount of money by putting together a risqué calendar.

The calendar, which features 11 naked men from the village, has proved so popular it has almost sold out in just two weeks, despite the organisers arranging another print run.

A range of newspaper, radio, internet and TV appearances have helped to ensure 'Rawcliffe Men in the Raw' has been a huge success and is on target to raise more than £2,000 for the Everyman Male Cancer Campaign.

Apart from sales of the calendar, their efforts have also attracted a flurry of donations and pledges of support from people across the region who have been impressed by their daring efforts.

The calendar has even proved a hit on a global scale, with several being sold for more than four times their usual cost on hit auction website eBay to American bidders - with one selling for more than £45.

After hearing of its popularity a spokesperson for Everyman said: "I just wanted to say congratulations on your very successful calendar.

"I am so pleased to hear 'Rawcliffe Men in the Raw' has proved such a hit that you had to order reprints after selling nearly 200 copies in the first week, and that it has been such a hit on eBay."

The calendar, which costs just £7.50, is on sale at a range of outlets across the area including the Goole Times, Rawcliffe Post Office, The Jemmy Hirst pub, Sharp Hairdressing on Bridge Street in York and Pets Pad in Rawcliffe.
