Jokers' amazing run is at an end

Published on 11th December 2008 in Sport

A gritty performance by Cary Dean and the lads of Old Goole Club ended Jailhouse Jokers' sequence of 25 league games without defeat in Division Two of this week's Foster's Goole Pool League.

Darren Brook and Terry Rooke did most of the damage for the Old Goole side with two wins apiece at crucial times to thwart a spirited finish by the Jokers in the shape of Matthew Dodson and Jamie Hughes.

A superb 9-1 win over Charter Cheddars ensured top spot in this division to Emma Longster's Packet Panthers, who had John Sands and Adam White in great form.

Neil Oldridge was overjoyed that his N.U.R. Clubbers are finally regaining a semblance of form after a full season in the doldrums. Kev Brewster and Rob Owen starred in their 8-2 defeat of Middle House Lasses, whose wins came by way of Mel Duffy and Maxine Johnson.

N.U.R. Neanderthals are a force to be reckoned with in Division One and destroyed the young Vic Casuals side 9-1 to ominously move into second place with a game in hand on the leaders. The Neanderthals have spent the last five years winning this division in the winter league and gaining promotion to the Premiership, only to be relegated back after the summer league! After this result it could be a case of deja vu.

For the moment Marshland Menaces lead this division, having pulled out all the stops to defeat Vermuyden Vultures 6-4 thanks to classy play from Sam Thompson, Matty Ashbury and Liam Beadle.

Shipwrecks of Swinefleet had Ali Harteveld and Mick Woolass to thank for their 8-2 win over Percy Punters of Airmyn, while Jim Stevens' and Paul Simms' performances stood out as Bottom House Brigade beat Royal Predators 7-3.

In the Premier Division Woodland Wanderers enjoyed some good luck for a change when surprisingly beating Buchanan Badboys 7-3. Steve Isle, Vince Mason and Steve Gibbons all produced performances of note in a smashing contest.

Board Inn Bandits are a better side when "Deadly" Dean Logan plays. His inclusion this week helped them retain top spot with a deserved 7-3 win over Middle House Mavericks, while elsewhere a five-all draw was a fair result between Mick Stainton's consistent Packet Hasbeens and Buchanan Badstars, who were well captained by Natalie Merrill.

Viking Wizards have the full support of all the Premiership players as they try to see the season out even though they are short-handed due to work commitments. Wayne Jackson, Chris Collins and Joe Nicholls were the only players available this week and they unfortunately went down 10-0 to the strong Swinefleet Pumas.

It never rains but it pours and unfortunately the Wizards had to play this home fixture at Swinefleet, because their home table was broken! Good luck, lads! You deserve a medal!

Two magnificent wins by the very experienced Neil Brooks for Bottom House Bombers in their 7-3 win away to Creykes Tigers were slightly overshadowed by two unexpected wins by young Anthony Buck, son of Adi, who showed he is very capable of following in his father's footsteps.

Captains are reminded that their next meeting will be held on Thursday, January 8 and not the week before, as expected.
