Witnesses sought after car ransacked

Published on 28th August 2008 in Letters

Sir - My letter is written for two purposes - and must remain anonymous, for reasons that will become clear.

Firstly, it is to appeal for witnesses to my car being broken into on the Drax Road, near the Rawcliffe roundabout on the Sunday before the Bank Holiday between approximately 3pm and 5pm.

I often park my car, a Black Vauxhall Vectra, in a little track a hundred metres or so from the Rawcliffe roundabout whilst I shoot pigeon for the local farmer. My car had the driver's side window smashed and a satellite navigation system and other personal belongings were stolen.

The persons who did this must have been in a car themselves, so if anyone witnessed a car parked alongside mine at approximately this time, I would appreciate you advising the Goole Times, who are in contact with me - or you can contact the local Police. It must have been strange seeing two cars parked in this location.

Secondly, to the thieves themselves. Obviously you are not interested in the fact that you have ruined a family's bank holiday by them having to clean up the glass, replace the stolen items, contact their insurance and the Police and then having to wait until after the bank holiday to get it repaired.

If you needed the item so much, and I suggest you may get £20 for the sat nav to fund your ever-increasing drug habit, I would rather have bought you one than you having to break into and damage my car. I would pay gladly to have seen the look on your faces as I returned to my car with my 12-bore shotgun whilst you were rifling through it - I'm sure that would have made you think twice about car theft in future.

If anyone has any information or has been offered a Magellan sat nav system, I will gladly pay a small reward to have these thieves convicted and you are welcome to keep the items at the same time.
