Not in my backyard
Published on 28th August 2008 in Letters
Sir - In your edition dated July 31 you printed an article in relation to the composting activities carried out close to Rawcliffe Bridge.
To be able to print amendments for the morning of the planning meeting in the afternoon indicates a foregone conclusion and Rawcliffe Bridge residents can 'go hang'. This is indicative of the attitude of all East Riding of Yorkshire Council departments. Here in the village we have unfinished road workings, ridiculous siting of 'Go Slow' signs, a terrible transport service, pavements strewn with dog dirt and totally inadequate policing of the area.
Yet we have an East Riding councillor defending the removal of conditions which protect the amenities of village life. He does not live in the area! I believed councillors were elected to protect everyone's interest.
As for the so-called Public Protection Department, they should have been here on Tuesday, July 29 and Sunday, August 3, when the stench hung over the village like a funeral pall.
Again it is a case of 'Not in my backyard'.
