Suspended sentence not activated

Sir - Further to your front page article of July 17 headed 'Busted' and referring to the conviction of a young chap for possessing drugs with intent to supply: perhaps I am missing a trick here, but I was of the opinion that, if you received a suspended sentence, in the event that you committed a crime during the period of the suspension you would be required to serve, automatically, the amount of sentence that was originally suspended, in custody.

Not so for this defendant, it seems.
