Sir - In these dark and dismal days of hearing nothing but horrendous stories of 'the youth of today', ie: knife crimes, drugs, vandalism and basic disregard of people's property and of those in authority - what a pleasure it was for me to visit The Gate for the first time last Friday and see none of the above.

What I did see was a very professional and fantastic show performed by a group of dedicated and brilliant 11- to 18-year-olds which they wrote and performed, and included some well-loved songs from the musical theatre.  It felt like the West End coming to Goole and I would just like to say thanks to all of you for one of the best nights I have ever had. I cannot wait until the next one.

I know that a theatre is being built in the old market - which is excellent news - however I wonder whether the old Timms flour mill site was considered, as surely it would have been the better site. It could have provided a theatre/cinema, skating/bowling ring, arts centre etc, with room for parking. This could have been provided for the greater development of Goole and to give the children and teenagers somewhere to go and something to do.
