Council in touch with landlords
Sir - I write in response to the letter from Mr Alan Wilson in last week's Goole Times regarding the offer that East Riding of Yorkshire Council has made to the seven private landlords who own the remaining properties on Phoenix Street and Richard Cooper Street.
I am happy to confirm that each of the landlords has been contacted by the council on numerous occasions over a lengthy period of time. I can also confirm that the same offer - the current market value of the property plus 7.5 per cent and assistance with legal and valuation fees - is still available to each of them.
More than 90 per cent of the people who owned properties on the two streets, including all of the owner-occupiers, have voluntarily allowed the council to acquire their homes and have since moved on to better housing elsewhere.
