Time to complete Shuffleton project
Sir - I am a construction engineer, who was laid off on Friday, July 4.
The company I worked for specialised in projects for local authorities and housing associations but the credit crunch, along with the downturn in the housing market, has brought a sudden halt to work.
I wonder therefore, how the leisurely approach of ERYC in selecting a preferred developer for the regeneration of Shuffleton is going to work. To date it has taken them around seven years to get to the present position of creating a haven for wild flowers and fly-tippers. They have refurbished but not finished three low-cost houses in Old Goole, which remain unsold. They have begun to change our streets by washing down brickwork and providing a fresh surface for the graffiti artists.
Yet now they expect to find a developer who can meet impossible criteria. The lack of progress suggests that this is a failing project, so before it sinks completely, let's get the area properly refurbished and finished.
