Putting the pride back into Goole

Published on 10th July 2008 in Letters

Sir - Once again I read in your paper that the Waterways Museum is in the running for another award demonstrating once again what a positive advertisement for the history of Goole they are.

What a superb job the staff and volunteers do at this innovative and exciting museum. How proud we should all be to have such a great asset in our community.

Isn't it a pity that just over a mile away we can see the opposite happening in Richard Cooper Street and Phoenix Street, where ERYC seem intent upon demolishing another part of the history and character of Goole. Their failure to listen to renovation plans that would preserve this history and character in an "innovative and exciting" manner, shows a true comparison between a forward-thinking organisation such as the Waterways and one that is just the opposite.

With the plans that GAG will put forward over the next few weeks, these streets when renovated will together with the museum continue to put the pride back into Goole.
