Skate park should be closed

Published on 12th June 2008 in Letters

Sir - I wrote to the Goole Times last year about the condition of the Malvern Road park. You very kindly did a front-page story on April 12, 2007.

Now, over a year on, nothing has changed - if anything it's worse. I gave up on any improvements to this area a long time ago.

But now an elderly gentleman has allegedly been assaulted as a result of these drunken animals. Once again the youths with no respect for people or property ruin another innocent person's life. I expect this gentleman is heartbroken after his pigeons were killed and his only choice is to give up his allotment after constant abuse and vandalism has driven him out of something that gave him so much pleasure.

The park attracts yobs and should be closed. Unless the council remove the lamp post that stops the gate closing, improves the CCTV and regularly cleans this park so respectable children can use it, I can't see an alternative.

It should be properly fenced off and used for allotments away from the bridge and a large secure section should be given to the unfortunate gentleman who was assaulted, but sadly he has probably lost all faith like the rest of us.

Also, before I finish, when I visited the park recently I found beer cans, cider bottles, condoms, a small clear bag with cannabis leaf in it, general litter and the usual graffiti. No change there, then!
