Sir - This is an open letter to the person who complained about the recycling bins sited on my pub car park.

I don't know who you are but probably know you very well. Do you somehow believe that I was paid to have these bins sited here, because the answer is no, I was not. I agreed to the siting because they are an amenity for a village I love, and which protect that village from the indiscriminate fly-tipping that goes on without them. Just take a walk along the river bank you profess to love so much and you will see what I mean.

We have planning permission for the houses on the site adjacent to the car park - would that not impair you view of the river more than the bins?

To the council official who sanctioned the bins removal: I have today been in touch with the Minister for the Environment and you will no doubt be called to justify why you removed them without investigation or consultation.

To the person who complained: I hope you enjoy you lonely life in your 'me' society. This village has long memories for the people who seek to destroy its beauty and tranquility.
