Oakhill - or should it be Oak Hell?

Published on 5th June 2008 in Letters

Sir - There have been a number of reports about Oakhill in the Goole Times of late and none of them were good news for locals.

Morons continue to use the area to burn out stolen cars, youths use the area for getting drunk and drugged up, motorcycles fly up and down the tracks, and a particular recent addition to the local community is catching cooking and eating the fish from the ponds (this is happening all over the country).

Suggestions that the area be policed are a total waste of time if the area is to be policed as it is now. What is needed, as I have said many times, is proper access to the site, car parking near Oak Hill pond and for lots of people to use the area - then it would police itself.

Also, if there were people in the area and a decent access road, the police, local authority, Environment Agency etc would have more of a reason to frequent the area.

So it's down to the East Riding Council who seem to me not to be interested in Goole, let alone our bit of waste land we call a country park, and Yorkshire Forward, who can't see any money in a country park, so that's the end of their interest.

It's looking like a bit of a lost cause as we wait for the powers that be to get their act together and as we wait the area is deteriorating and becoming a haunt for drunks, druggies and other undesirables which in turn will keep decent, law-abiding people away.
