Speed bumps a waste of money

Published on 5th June 2008 in Letters

Sir - What is the point of these speed bumps? More money wasted by the council.

Instead of spending money on them, why not repair the roads first, as they are full of pot-holes? What do we pay car tax for if not to have decent roads to drive on? With high fuel costs, insurance, the MoT, the cost of repairing cars due to the condition of the roads is going up too. Surely the motorists of this town have the right to decent roads, but do we get them? No.

It's about time the council got their priorities right. I do agree about slowing down the traffic but at what cost to the motorist when the uneven roads and pot holes are damaging the cars? Also, something must be done about cars and vans turning right into Tescos. It is a 'no right turn,' but how many motorists choose to ignore it? Would they drive through a red light, or the wrong way down a one-way street, and expect to get away with it?

None of them would, so why break the law there?
