Mayor's thanks

Published on 22nd May 2008 in Letters

Sir - I felt that I must write to thank everyone for their support and kindness shown to me during my year as Mayor of Goole. I have been invited to many events; concerts, church services, openings, fund raising events, AGMs, celebrations of success, as well as Civic events in other towns.

I have met many wonderful people who are doing a fantastic amount of voluntary work within our community and many others who are trying to make Goole a Great place to live.

I must thank Carol Hodson and Jo Glover, who work tirelessly with the Artsaway/Castaway group and have supported me at my Civic Service and my Mayors concert, as well as taking part in Goole in Bloom.

I would also like to thank all the volunteer members of 'Goole in Bloom': The Courtyard, Green Team, Sobriety Waterways Museum, Parkside School, Riverside School, Kingsway School, Mariners Association, Memorial Bowls Club, St. John's Parish Church Central Methodist church and Helping Hands. Also ABP, Guardian Industries, the Retail Chamber and Goole Town Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council staff (apologies if I have missed anyone out).

I must also thank my husband and all my friends and colleagues who have accompanied me as consort/guest on many occasions and especially Cllr. Beryl Beck Taylor, who has chauffeured and accompanied me to various venues throughout Yorkshire/North Lincs.

Lastly, but by not means least, I must thank Frank Ella for all his help and support throughout the year, especially with the Christmas lights switch-on and the Mayor's concert which he arranges each year to raise money for the Mayors charities - over £750 this year. What would Goole do without you? And thank you, Frank, for your kind thoughts and words

My year of office has been very busy, enjoyable and memorable. I have been honoured to represent the residents of Goole throughout the East Riding and North Lincolnshire area and I would like to wish our new Mayor, Cllr. Kevin Flynn all the very best for 2008/09.
