Damaged within 24 hours

Sir - Why do we bother? - part two. As a follow-up to the letter last week from Snaith Community Playing Fields Association Secretary Steve McKiernan, we are pleased to announce that we have managed to erect a pavilion at the playing field. This will eventually provide changing and shower facilities for people using the field. This has been achieved after many hours of hard work by a small group of people, especially our secretary.

Unfortunately, within 24 hours of completion someone has managed to damage one of the drainpipes at the rear of the pavilion. We believe the individual concerned was trying to climb onto the roof, using the drainpipe to achieve their objective. Quite why they wanted to go on the roof we don't know. No doubt they would have tried to put in a claim against us if they had managed to injure themselves in the process.

Hardly the crime of the century, we agree, but yet another unnecessary expense involved in repairing the damage caused. Our association are committed to achieving our objective of providing the community of Snaith and Cowick with a sustainable facility for leisure-related pursuits - something the town has wanted for years.

We cannot achieve this objective without the support and assistance of the local community. The facilities at the playing field are for everyone, so let's use them, not abuse them.
