Runners-up spot as champs lose steam at South Park
Swinefleet Reserves 4
Mallard 1
The second team clinched the runners-up spot and promotion to Division Two with an emphatic victory over the league champions Mallard last Wednesday evening.
Eatly first half goals from Sam Nicholls, Josh Hewson and Andrew Severn with Mallard responding with one allowed the home side a cushion of sorts and there was plenty of refereeing activity as he booked seven players, two for the hosts and five for Mallard.
A class finish with twenty minutes remaining from Cohen Vause made the game safe, and was a deserved strike for the lad returning from injury.
BBM 7, Swinefleet F.C. 3
In the final match of the Scunthorpe League season, Swinefleet's first team took part in a goal feast, chiefly as a result of poor defending from both sides.
Swinefleet were always chasing the game, but despite this they played some good football and were always able to match the runners-up for quality of football.
They found themselves three down by half time due to hesitant defending at the back, but a quick goal by Dale Noon within five minutes of the restart did give them brief hope before the home side extended their lead with a free header from a corner.
Lee Burnitt pulled another goal back just after the hour mark following a fine move involving Wayne Sykes, Danny Nicholson and Sam Nicholls, but within four minutes the home side were gifted another goal and yet another present followed on 69 minutes.
Sam Nicholls finished his season in style a quarter of an hour from time, but BBM had the last word on 82 minutes.
