Published on 1st May 2008 in Letters
Sir - I have recently been asked again for information of men lost on the Goole ship ss Sparta and thought it might be of interest to your readers.
The ship, owned by the Bennett Steamship Co of Goole, was on passage from Blyth in Northumberland with coal to Southampton. On March 10, 1941 she was sunk by a mine in the Straits of Dover.
The Tower Hill Memorial, panel 100, shows the men lost as:

Sutcliff, Goole
Royal Navy Gunners are listed as Reginald Frank Buck of Hereford and Andrew Emerson Hodgson.
