Sir - I have a son and daughter-in-law who live in Little Reedness. In the past we have visited them a number of times and I have particularly enjoyed walking along the river bank.

I used to meet a number of dog-walkers and was pleasantly surprised at the complete lack of dog faeces. Eighteen months ago we moved to our present address (much closer to them) and six months ago they presented us with our first grandchild (and their first child).

We have obviously visited them much more frequently recently, but I am not able to enjoy my walks because of the number of dog faeces. There is no need for me to reiterate the arguments made against owners who do not clear up their dog droppings.

I understand that the appearance of the messes coincides with the arrival of some dog owners in the village so it is reasonable to connect the two events. I hope you can find room to publish this letter and that the dog owners concerned are suitably shamed into clearing up after their animals.
