We're the locals!

Published on 1st May 2008 in Letters

Sir - May I take this opportunity to point out yet another waste of council-tax payers' money - which we know is one of the highest in the East Riding.

If the current 'saga' regarding the speed bumps/bollards were not enough, last week down Carter Street they had been three-quarters completed, only for them to be removed and filled in again!

What a waste of time and OUR MONEY.

This leads me onto yet another waste of local council tax money. The article in last week's paper stating that East Riding plan to hold an 'information evening' for migrant workers to help them with issues such as housing, education and work matters which also includes 'light refreshments', which I can only assume will be paid for by us, the taxpayer.

I am in no way, shape or form a racist or xenophobic, but why should we the taxpayers fund such unnecessary expense as this?

More local issues such as the state of the roads, etc., should be addressed before helping migrant workers. We're the locals!
