CAB better value than arts centre

Published on 1st May 2008 in Letters

Sir - Do these ill-informed town councillors in Goole really represent us? If so, then I suggest that they should have got their facts straight before launching such a verbal assault on Boothferry Citizens' Advice Bureau.

I was astonished to read in last week's Goole Times that the council is re-considering awarding its annual grant to the bureau, an organisation composed primarily of highly-trained volunteer advisers who devote many hours of their time to helping the less-well-off in society.

May I suggest that the £12,000-odd 'given' to the CAB each year is money far better spent than on projects such as the proposed arts centre?

So come on, you councillors, some of whom may need the help of this charity at some future date.  I hope you do indeed have a re-think about the amount of this grant. It should be doubled, not halved.

You know they're worth it!
