Sir,

Friday, April 18 2008 - queuing outside Selby Town Hall for opening - what was going on? Only a major coup for the venue, it being the singer Chris Farlowe.

What a brill night it turned out to be - he was backed by the Norman Beaker band, who were first class, and their 'stand-in' synth player was a show stealer himself.

Chris kept the sell-out audience entertained for nearly two hours with a selection of old blues numbers and classics such as Out of Time, All or Nothing and Handbags and Gladrags, Out of Time being a hit in 1966 (yes, when England won the World Cup) but the song is still as good today.

At the end of the night he rightly got a standing ovation.
