Goole - Venice of the North

Published on 24th April 2008 in Letters

Sir - Early on Saturday morning, walking home from the newsagents, Racing Post in hand, I observed the first tentative rays of a new day sun gently caressing the rooftops of our town and I thought to myself it really doesn't get much better than this. Particularly with the imminent prospect of a huge fry-up, a pint mug of tea and hours of quality sporting entertainment.

Ah, Goole! Why do people leave you for expensive foreign holidays when they have everything on their own doorstep? Paris has the Eiffel Tower, Goole has the Water Tower. Venice and Amsterdam have their canals, so has Goole. Sydney has the Harbour Bridge, Goole has the Kingsway Bridge and for those looking for an adventure holiday how about a night time tour of the streets of Shuffleton? That should provide enough excitement for anyone.

No wonder Goole is the destiny of choice for so many Europeans.
