New threat of mental health cutbacks?

Published on 24th April 2008 in Letters

Sir - Did any reader who receives the East Riding News see the article from Lisa Smith of the Humber Mental Health Trust?

It was regarding the care of patients with mental health problems to be treated in their own homes.

She says that even seriously unwell people can be treated this way. What does she mean?

Does she realise that anyone so ill can be in a life-threatening situation? The stress to user and carer will be immense.

Home intensive treatment is already being set up in Goole and the inpatient beds at Bartholomew House are still under great threat.

We hear the word 'modern' repeated by representatives of the trust - is this another word for cuts?

Please be aware, residents of Goole and surrounding areas, that the assurances given last year from the H.M.H. Trust cannot be taken for granted.

Can I urge you all to ask your GP, prospective MP Andrew Percy and your MP Ian Cawsey to closely monitor the situation for all our sakes?
