What is the point of these space-wasters?
Sir - Have they completely lost their marbles?
Who? ERYC highways dept and our Town Council, is who.
Why? In a town crying out for parking spaces ERYC see fit (and GTC seemingly agree) or GTC ask for (and ERYC agree), to reduce the available parking spaces further. Brilliant!
How so? Anyone travelling down Dunhill Road and Seavy Road (and perhaps other residential streets in the area, too) lately, cannot fail to see there is work under way to insert 'bollards' into the road surface.
Just what are these things supposed to achieve apart from providing work for several gangs of Council employed workmen?
Traffic-calming measures? Can't be that, as they are set less than a car's width away from the pavement and are easily masked by parked vehicles.
I have noticed however, that the pair of bollards closest to the junction with Boothferry Road are ideally spaced to cause the maximum inconvenience by narrowing the mouth of Dunhill Road sufficiently to impede the safe passage of two vehicles thus I envisage there to be even more congestion on Boothferry Road (Oh, joy!) when there are vehicles waiting to both exit and enter Dunhill Road at the same time. Great planning, guys.
So what is the point of these 'space wasters'?
Perhaps EYRC or GTC would respond and tell us all just what substance they are taking that makes them believe they are serving our best interests in installing these things?
If this is how our council tax is to be spent, personally, I think it's a load of 'bollards'!

In October 07 there was 700 leaflets sent out regarding the traffic calming measures. Out of those 700 only 89 households responded, 53 yes and 19 no. The council says this result shows the majority wants the traffic calming implemented as there were more for than against. It seems the council knows most of the leaflets will go straight in the bin allowing them to get their own way. I for one was against.
