Sir - Through your Readers' Page I would like to comment on the latest condescending action of the council.

I refer to the latest increase of 17.6 per cent for a pensioners' swim imposed on April 1 (a good day to bury bad news?). We were allowed a crumb of comfort with the new bus pass only to be returned this kick back.

How can it be justified, in one of the highest-rated authorities in the UK. No wonder half the regulars have jumped ship and gone to Selby. After all, the Leisure Centre continues to lose its attraction with things like locker doors missing for months and half the dry-side changing rooms out of use for even longer; cancelled fitness classes have been routine for years.

Also, why upset people by confiscating half the car park without warning?

Maybe someone in charge should be a little more savant and a little less supercilious.
